Rather than wait for change, he set out to create it. In 2019, he launched Ingaged from his home with a mission rooted in creativity, community and Indigenous economic empowerment. Today, the Fort William First Nation-based company employs 27 people, hosts more than 100 events each year and operates The Outset, an event venue in Thunder Bay.

Ingaged’s growth has been remarkable, expanding from just $267 in revenue in its first year to $2.9 million in 2024. Under Corey’s leadership, the company brought together event production, creative services, media, communications and printing, while also purchasing and revitalizing a 17,600-square-foot heritage building in Thunder Bay.

The journey was not without challenges. As an Indigenous entrepreneur operating on reserve, Corey faced repeated financing rejections, often without explanation, and had limited access to support networks. He persevered through determination and an unwavering belief in his vision.

Creating opportunities remains central to Ingaged’s work. Through Ingaged Marketplace, which partners with 12 Indigenous artists, royalties are paid directly based on the use of their artwork. Since 2020, more than $1 million has been distributed to support artists and their creative practice.

By connecting creativity, business and community, Corey is helping Indigenous talent thrive while generating lasting economic and cultural impact in Ontario and beyond.

Why vote for Corey? Because he built a thriving Indigenous-owned business where others saw barriers, creating jobs, investing in artists and proving that community-driven entrepreneurship can deliver lasting economic and cultural benefits.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://www.ingaged.ca/"},{"id":15670,"slug":"nicole-antoine-15670","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Nicole-Antoine-1024x1024.jpg","name":"Nicole Antoine","job_title":"N/A & Co.","professional_title":"","location":"QC","bio":"
Nicole Antoine founded N/A & Co. to help brands and leaders tell stories that connect identity, business goals and community impact. Drawing on experience in law, non-profit work and retail, she built a marketing and brand strategy company that makes diversity and inclusion central to how organizations communicate and grow.

What began as a founder-led operation has evolved into a multidisciplinary agency working across Quebec and Ontario. Through long-term relationships with entrepreneurship and community organizations, N/A & Co. has delivered strategic campaigns, brand initiatives, programs and experiences that connect businesses and communities to new opportunities.

Growth brought a defining challenge: Nicole had to meet rising client demands, lead a larger team and strengthen operations while completing an Executive MBA and raising a family. Drawing on a background in geology, marketing and technology, she saw an opportunity to introduce the Canadian market to a different way of experiencing wine through Tomato Wheels Lambrusco, a women-led wine label built around a sparkling dry red wine designed to be served chilled. Partnering with a fourth-generation vineyard in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, she transformed that vision into a nationally distributed brand in just three years.

Since launch, Tomato Wheels has expanded into seven provinces, secured placements in all Eataly Canada locations and built a loyal customer base in a category that had little national visibility. The business quickly grew into a six-figure company, while earning recognition for Moirae as a 2023 Indigenous Women in Entrepreneurship Role Model and attracting coverage from publications including The Globe and Mail and People Magazine.

The journey has not been without obstacles. Building a national wine brand in Canada means navigating a complex patchwork of provincial regulations, distribution systems and purchasing models. Rather than letting those challenges limit growth, Moirae continued to expand strategically, bringing her product to new markets while keeping quality and brand integrity at the centre of every decision.

Moirae built Tomato Wheels with intention, partnering with people who share her values and creating products and experiences designed to spark conversation and connection. That philosophy even led her to publish Just Ask Your Self as a companion to the brand, choosing a path that reflected her vision rather than convention.

Why vote for Moirae? Because she dared to challenge convention and introduce people across Canada to a new way of experiencing wine while building a purpose-driven brand that proves entrepreneurship can be creative, courageous and deeply authentic.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://www.tomatowheels.com/"},{"id":15620,"slug":"kristin-davey-15620","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Kristin-Yvonne-Davey-990x1024.jpg","name":"Kristin Davey","job_title":"The Happy Popcorn Co. ","professional_title":"","location":"ON","bio":"
Kristin Davey and her partner, Bill, started The Happy Popcorn Co. for their son, Jack, who is on the autism spectrum. Popcorn is Jack’s favourite snack, and they wanted to build a business and a future workplace where he could belong, contribute and be valued. Since 2019, their Cornwall-based company has handcrafted gourmet popcorn for local customers and popcorn lovers across Canada.

What began in a 600-square-foot storefront has expanded twice into a 4,300-square-foot flagship location. When COVID-19 abruptly ended in-person shopping, Kristin and Bill used their family’s isolation period to build the company’s online presence, then quickly introduced e-commerce and curbside pickup. Their ability to adapt helped the business survive and reach customers nationwide.

The company’s purpose remains its strongest differentiator. Its inclusive hiring practices create meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities and earned recognition from the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce. By sharing their family’s story, Kristin has also become a source of guidance for parents of neurodiverse children who are thinking about their loved ones’ futures.

The impact is visible in the loyal customers who make the store part of weekly traditions and choose its popcorn for celebrations and milestones.

Why vote for Kristin? Because she turned a parent’s hope for her son into an inclusive business that creates belonging, supports families and shows how entrepreneurship can build a more welcoming future.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://thehappypopcornco.com/"},{"id":15510,"slug":"jennifer-delaney-15510","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Jennifer-Delaney.png","name":"Jennifer Delaney","job_title":"Nurture Early Childhood Education ","professional_title":"","location":"BC","bio":"
When Jennifer Delaney founded Nurture Early Childhood Education, she believed every child deserved access to high-quality, inclusive and joyful early learning. Starting with little more than an idea and a spreadsheet, she built Nurture from the ground up, creating a welcoming environment where children can thrive and families can feel supported.

Despite facing skepticism and barriers early on, Jennifer remained focused on her vision. Her determination helped Nurture grow from a single location in 2020 to two thriving childcare centres, while remaining open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to provide essential care for families and frontline workers. Today, the organization supports children of all abilities through inclusive programming and employs a growing team of dedicated early childhood educators.

Beyond helping children learn and grow, Nurture plays an important role in strengthening the community. By providing reliable childcare, Jennifer helps parents, especially mothers, participate in the workforce while creating meaningful, living-wage jobs in a sector facing ongoing labour shortages. Her people-first approach has also made Nurture a highly sought-after place to work, with a strong reputation among both families and educators.

Why vote for Jennifer? Because she turned a simple idea into a thriving community that helps children flourish, supports families and creates opportunities for educators, proving that compassionate leadership can have a lasting impact on generations to come.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://www.nurturevictoria.ca/"},{"id":15690,"slug":"zoya-de-frias-lakhany-15690","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Zoya-De-Frias-Lakhany.jpeg","name":"Zoya de Frias Lakhany","job_title":"Le Virunga","professional_title":"","location":"QC","bio":"
Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zoya de Frias Lakhany grew up between Belgium and Montreal, at the crossroads of many cultures, languages and culinary traditions. A warm welcome from diners and word of mouth tripled business within three months. Today, Le Virunga employs eight people and has carved out a distinctive place in Montreal’s dining scene.

Zoya had to convince the market that African cuisine belongs in contemporary fine dining. With no large network or major investors, she built the business step by step through the constant challenges of running an independent restaurant.

She is proudest of building a team of mostly women and people from diverse communities, in a sector where they remain underrepresented. The Toronto-based company builds and runs multilingual outbound sales programs, combining dedicated teams with its proprietary AI sales intelligence platform, Pitchpilot.

Backed early by Futurpreneur and BDC, The Sales Factory grew from $180,000 in revenue in 2020 to approximately $10 million in annual recurring revenue today. It now serves scale ups, major Canadian banks and large enterprises in 13 languages, helping clients build the infrastructure needed for sustainable growth.

That growth was tested in 2023 when a major European client declared bankruptcy, leaving roughly US$350,000 in unpaid invoices. Combined with a broader contraction in business-to-business sales, the loss forced Paul and team to restructure the company and make difficult layoffs. They absorbed the setback, rebuilt reserves and returned the business to profitable growth.

The company’s strongest impact is the opportunity it creates for people others overlook. The Sales Factory has launched more than 400 sales careers by hiring for potential, then providing the training and support new professionals need to succeed. Paul also mentors founders in Canada through Futurpreneur growth sessions, industry events and founder communities.

Why vote for Paul and Eric? Because they built a durable Canadian company without venture capital while opening hundreds of doors for emerging talent, proving that betting on people can power both business growth and lasting careers.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://www.thesalesfactory.com/"},{"id":15632,"slug":"joey-hebert-15632","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Joey-Hebert-1.png","name":"Joey Hébert","job_title":" MOS ","professional_title":"","location":"QC","bio":"
Passionate about the outdoors, design and innovation, Joey Hébert co-founded MOS to solve a very practical problem: moving bikes, kayaks and other bulky gear is often difficult and unsafe. At the same time, Michael has created highly skilled career opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador and across Atlantic Canada, helping prove that world-class innovation and talent can thrive close to home.

As a leader, Michael brings empathy, mentorship and resilience to everything he does, drawing on his own non-traditional path to entrepreneurship to help others realize their potential.

Why vote for Michael? Because he has built a business that strengthens healthcare access across Canada while creating meaningful opportunities in Atlantic Canada, proving that innovation, impact and talent can grow from any community.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://biolantic.ca/"},{"id":15544,"slug":"kiirsten-may-and-alex-varricchio-15544","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Kriisten-May-Alex-Varricchio-1-1-900x1024.jpg","name":"Kiirsten May and Alex Varricchio","job_title":"UpHouse","professional_title":"","location":"MB","bio":"
When Kiirsten May co-founded UpHouse with Alex Varricchio in 2017, she believed marketing could be more human, collaborative and connected to the communities that brands serve. From navigating the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic to adapting to evolving technologies and shifting client needs, she and her co-founder have guided the company from a startup with no revenue to a thriving business approaching $7 million in annual revenue and employing more than 40 people across Canada and beyond.

Today, UpHouse works with more than 100 organizations across North America, helping clients communicate in ways that better reflect and serve diverse communities. Through campaigns that promote accessibility, inclusion, healthcare awareness, tourism and community development, Kiirsten and team have demonstrated that marketing can be a powerful force for positive social impact.

Beyond business growth, Kiirsten has focused on building a workplace where people feel supported, empowered and able to lead authentically. Their solution was a simple but innovative one: self-guided tasting tours that help people explore multiple restaurants and neighbourhoods in a single evening without having to plan it themselves.

What began as a university project grew into a thriving multi-city business. After being laid off during the pandemic while raising two young children, Joanna turned uncertainty into opportunity, building Taste the City into a company that has generated more than $415,000 in revenue to date while expanding across Canada.

Along the way, she and Melissa overcame major challenges, including technical setbacks during a high-profile Dragon’s Den appearance, by staying focused on innovation, customer experience and sustainable growth.

Today, Taste the City drives hundreds of thousands of dollars in economic activity for local restaurants while encouraging customers to explore businesses and communities they might never have discovered otherwise. Its unique model has even attracted academic interest for its potential to strengthen local economies, tourism and urban vibrancy.

Why vote for Melissa and Joanna? Because they’ve developed a business that helps people rediscover their cities while supporting local restaurants, proving that innovation can create stronger communities and new opportunities for local businesses to thrive.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://tastings.tastethecity.ca/"},{"id":15552,"slug":"noah-palansky-jordan-davis-and-avi-stoller-15552","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Noah-Polansky-1024x837.jpg","name":"Noah Palansky, Jordan Davis and Avi Stoller","job_title":"TAIV","professional_title":"","location":"MB ","bio":"
When Noah Palansky and Jordan Davis visited sports bars in Winnipeg, they noticed a missed opportunity hiding in plain sight. Television screens were showing commercials for competitors or products that had little relevance to the venue, while restaurants had no way to promote their own specials and events to the customers already watching.

That observation became Taiv. Founded in Winnipeg in 2018, the company developed technology that detects television commercial breaks in real time and replaces the ads with venue promotions, licensed content and more relevant advertising. Venues can control what appears on their screens, block competitors and receive a share of the advertising revenue. Advertisers, meanwhile, can reach audiences watching live sports in bars, restaurants and retail locations across Canada and the United States.

Taiv’s path was anything but straightforward. When the COVID-19 pandemic closed many bars and restaurants, Noah helped lead a complete reinvention of the business model. The team stopped charging venues for the technology and began providing it at no cost, sharing advertising revenue with them instead. To prove the model, the founders went door to door, asking local businesses to advertise in nearby restaurants.

That persistence helped Taiv grow to 108 employees, including 82 based in Winnipeg. The company now serves more than 5,000 venues across North America. For Noah and team, this growth is about more than scale. It shows talented people that they can build meaningful technology careers in Winnipeg rather than leaving for larger markets.

Futurpreneur provided Noah and Jordan with a $15,000 loan in 2019, when Taiv had a prototype but little else. Less than a year after opening, the pandemic forced repeated closures over two years. Its reformulation guarantee means a product can be adjusted until it truly meets a customer’s needs.

Why vote for Rachelle and Andrea? Because they turned a financial setback into a science-driven local company that personalizes skin care, creates specialized jobs and makes a real difference in the daily lives of thousands of people.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://omycosmetics.com/en"},{"id":15574,"slug":"michelle-strum-15574","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Michelle-Strum-683x1024.jpg","name":"Michelle Strum","job_title":"Halifax Backpackers ","professional_title":"","location":"NS","bio":"
A hostel can be a place to sleep, but Michelle Strum saw the opportunity to make it something more. Twenty-five years ago, she founded Halifax Backpackers to create a welcoming space where travellers and locals could connect, share experiences and build community. Today, the 30-bed hostel and onsite café serve visitors from around the world while remaining a gathering place for residents, artists, musicians and entrepreneurs in Halifax’s North End.

Over the past quarter century, Michelle has grown the business beyond accommodation, adding a café that provides both a revenue stream and a community hub. The business has expanded to include a second location on Nova Scotia’s South Shore, giving guests the opportunity to experience both the energy of Halifax and the province’s coastal beauty. Through it all, Halifax Backpackers has welcomed thousands of visitors while maintaining the personal, authentic atmosphere that sets it apart from traditional hospitality experiences.

Like many tourism operators, Michelle faced an enormous challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. After preparing to bring new ideas back from an industry learning trip in late 2019, she instead found herself navigating widespread cancellations and a complete shutdown of operations. Despite the uncertainty, she persevered and continued adapting the business through one of the most difficult periods in the tourism sector’s history.

Michelle’s impact extends far beyond her own business. She co-founded the North End Business Association to strengthen collaboration among local businesses and played a key role in launching Taking BLK Gottingen, an initiative created to better support and elevate Black-owned businesses within the community.

Michelle’s belief that hospitality is about connection helps her stand out. Whether welcoming international travellers or supporting local entrepreneurs, she has consistently used business as a tool to bring people together.

Why vote for Michelle? Because for 25 years, she has successfully grown a hospitality business while helping create a stronger, more connected community, demonstrating the power of entrepreneurship to open doors for others.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://www.halifaxbackpackers.com/"},{"id":15614,"slug":"shelby-taylor-15614","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Shelby-Taylor-1-1024x683.jpg","name":"Shelby Taylor","job_title":"Chickapea","professional_title":"","location":"ON","bio":"
While working as a magazine editor and later running a health food store, Shelby saw how difficult it was for people to make healthier eating part of everyday life. She founded Chickapea in 2016 to make familiar comfort food more nutritious without sacrificing taste. Today, its organic chickpea-based pastas and one-pot meals help families and other health-conscious consumers enjoy convenient, protein-rich options.

Under Shelby’s leadership, Chickapea became the first organic chickpea-based pasta in Canada and now leads the country’s pulse-based pasta category with a 50%-dollar share. The Certified B Corporation has expanded across North America while building a brand grounded in both purpose and profit.

When the premium grocery market shifted after COVID-19, Shelby made the difficult choice to slow growth for nearly two years. She repositioned Chickapea to appeal to a broader audience by improving taste, price and brand appeal, navigating the change while preparing the company for its next stage of growth.

Chickapea’s impact extends beyond the grocery aisle. From 2021 to 2024, its partnership with Community Food Centres Canada and The New Farm Centre helped bring regenerative, organic produce to low-income communities in Southern Ontario. Shelby has also built the company while raising two children, demonstrating the adaptability, conviction and empathy that define her leadership.

Why vote for Shelby? Because she transformed a personal insight into Canada’s leading pulse-based pasta brand, making healthier choices easier while proving that a food business can grow with purpose, adaptability and lasting community impact.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://chickapea.ca/"},{"id":15479,"slug":"janice-tran-15479","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Janice-Tran-819x1024.jpg","name":"Janice Tran","job_title":"Kanin Energy","professional_title":"","location":"AB","bio":"
Janice Tran co-founded Kanin Energy with Dan Fipke after seeing a major opportunity hiding in plain sight: industrial facilities release enormous amounts of usable heat every day. Her Calgary-based company develops, finances, owns and operates projects that convert this waste heat into clean, reliable power, helping industrial customers lower energy costs, reduce emissions and strengthen grid resilience.

Since Kanin was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic, Janice had to build customer relationships and raise capital through years of lockdowns. Political shifts around sustainability, cross-border tensions and tariffs added further pressure. Janice responded by focusing the company’s message on industrial efficiency and energy savings while rethinking sourcing and supply chains.

Today, Kanin is the only developer focused on waste-heat-to-power projects across North America. Its active portfolio is expected to avoid more than 200,000 tonnes of CO₂e (carbon dioxide equivalent) each year once fully operational, without additional fuel consumption or water use. Janice has also played a role in educating industry, regulators and investors about the technology’s potential.

Futurpreneur’s early financing helped Janice and team hire the first employees and build momentum toward a $1-million seed investment.

Why vote for Janice? Because she is pioneering a new clean energy market that turns industrial waste into reliable power while showcasing what the next generation of energy leadership can look like.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://kaninenergy.com/"},{"id":15592,"slug":"lily-tse-15592","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Lily-Tse-576x1024.jpg","name":"Lily Tse","job_title":"Think Dirty","professional_title":"","location":"ON","bio":"
When Lily Tse lost her job, she found herself asking a question that many consumers still struggle with today: what is actually in the products we use every day? The answer was often difficult to find. That gap in transparency inspired her to create Think Dirty, a consumer advocacy app that helps people better understand the ingredients in their beauty and personal care products and make more informed choices for their health and the environment.

What began as one founder’s idea has grown into a global platform used by more than 6 million people across 33+ countries. Over the past 13 years, Think Dirty users have scanned products more than 66.9 million times, helping drive greater awareness of product ingredients and safety.

The path was rarely straightforward. Just months before launch, Lily had to rebuild the product from scratch after losing access to key company assets.

She faced additional setbacks, including the loss of a major investment opportunity and the ongoing challenge of building a technology company as a non-technical founder. Through every obstacle, she kept moving forward.

The impact of Think Dirty reaches far beyond the app. It has empowered millions of people to make more informed purchasing decisions while contributing to broader conversations about responsible materials and chemicals management.

Perhaps most remarkably, Think Dirty has remained independently owned and mission-driven for 13 years, allowing Lily to stay accountable to the people who trust the platform rather than outside investors.

Why vote for Lily? Because she turned a simple question into a global movement for transparency, giving millions of consumers the knowledge they need to make informed choices while staying true to her mission every step of the way.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://www.thinkdirtyapp.com/"},{"id":15696,"slug":"daryl-wright-15696","photo":"https://futurpreneur.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Daryl-Wright-1024x1024.png","name":"Daryl Wright","job_title":"Seed 2 Leaf","professional_title":"","location":"SK","bio":"
While completing his master’s degree in environmental practice, Daryl Wright identified a serious gap in Canada’s response to invasive species: Indigenous communities were largely missing from the national framework. He founded Seed 2 Leaf Environmental Consulting to build Indigenous capacity, protect biodiversity and create meaningful pathways for Indigenous youth in environmental work.

Since receiving Futurpreneur support in 2019, when annual sales were below $100,000, Seed 2 Leaf has grown year over year. The Saskatchewan company now employs 13 seasonal workers and two managers, partners with industry and fabricates specialized equipment that advances the sector. Daryl’s long-term vision is to help Indigenous managers become operators through a franchise model.

The journey began with very little capital. On his first major contract, Daryl arrived in Alberta with two left boots and no money to replace them after covering his team’s wages, fuel and food. He worked through the challenges, determined to keep his commitment. That moment still captures the resilience behind the company’s growth.

Each year, Seed 2 Leaf directs more than 9,000 work hours to Indigenous staff. Over five years, it has paid more than $1.5 million in wages directly to Indigenous youth while developing future environmental professionals. An upcoming exchange with South Africa will also bring Indigenous knowledge to the global stage. Futurpreneur’s financing helped Daryl buy better equipment, while mentorship gave him a trusted sounding board.

Why vote for Daryl? Because he is turning environmental stewardship into lasting economic opportunity, creating careers for Indigenous youth while strengthening Canada’s ability to protect its land and biodiversity.

","bio_text":"Profile","vote_link":"","vote_text":"","facebook":"","twitter":"","linkedin":"","website":"https://seed2leaf.com/"}]">

Questions?

Please check our FAQ.

Entrepreneur FAQ

If you still have questions, please contact us at: programs@futurpreneur.ca.

Meet the Entrepreneur Award Finalists Voting for the People’s Choice Award is now closed. Thank you to everyone who voted and helped celebrate the 30 inspiring finalists shaping Canada’s future. Explore their profiles and discover the entrepreneurs whose innovation, resilience and ambition are making an impact across the country. The People’s Choice Award winner, […]

["post-14042","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
