{"id":4728,"date":"2013-02-11T14:51:34","date_gmt":"2013-02-11T19:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/futurpreneur.ca\/?p=4728"},"modified":"2024-02-14T10:39:09","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T15:39:09","slug":"how-to-fix-boring-elevator-pitches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futurpreneur.ca\/en\/blog\/how-to-fix-boring-elevator-pitches\/","title":{"rendered":"How to fix boring elevator pitches"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>How to fix boring elevator pitches<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Hamish Knox, <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamish.sandler.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Sandler Training<\/em><\/a><em>, Calgary, AB, CYBF Young Entrepreneur<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most elevator pitches are boring at best, and bad at worst, because entrepreneurs make two mistakes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>They think the elevator pitch is about <em>them<\/em><\/li>\n<li>They believe the purpose of an elevator pitch is to <em>sell<\/em> their company<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Let\u2019s address each.<\/p>\n<p>Elevator pitches typically revolve around a company or individual\u2019s features-and-benefits (e.g. best service, number one in client satisfaction etc.) but unfortunately, this makes you sound like everybody else (boring).<\/p>\n<p>Instead, focus your elevator pitch on the <strong>problems you help solve<\/strong> (e.g. our clients are typically frustrated with managing multiple databases and tired of wasting time checking for duplicate entries).<\/p>\n<p>The real purpose of an elevator pitch is to <strong>start a conversation<\/strong>, which may lead to an investment or sale.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s pretend you\u2019re at a bar looking to connect with someone.
