New investment will help non-profit organization support 2,700 new entrepreneurs <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TORONTO \u2013 (February 5, 2015) \u2013<\/strong> Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced<\/a> that the Government of Canada will support the success of young Canadian entrepreneurs through a $14 million dollar investment in Futurpreneur Canada over two years. This investment, along with the generous contributions of corporate, government and other partners, will help an estimated 2,700 young entrepreneurs<\/strong> access the financing and proven programs they need to build businesses, jobs and a stronger, more competitive Canadian economy. These entrepreneurs have the potential to create 2,250 new businesses<\/strong> and 10,800 jobs[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYoung entrepreneurs have the desire and potential to fuel the job creation and growth Canada\u2019s economy needs,\u201d said Julia Deans, CEO, Futurpreneur Canada<\/strong>. \u201cWith this support we will equip thousands of young people with the skills, resources and confidence they need to launch and grow their own businesses. We\u2019re encouraged by this investment and look forward to working with our other partners to help even more entrepreneurs.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGetting young entrepreneurs the learning and support they need to move forward has never been more important,\u201d said John Risley, Chair, Board of Directors, Futurpreneur Canada and President and CEO, Clearwater Fine Foods Inc., \u201c<\/strong>They are job creators, community builders, and absolutely critical to Canada\u2019s economic future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception in 1996, Futurpreneur Canada has collaborated with all levels of government, corporate supporters and community partners to advance youth entrepreneurship in Canada. As a result, the organization has invested in 7,500 entrepreneurs[2]<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>, who have created an estimated 29,800 jobs<\/strong> and an estimated $217,000,000 in tax revenue[3]<\/strong><\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday\u2019s young entrepreneurs are essential to tomorrow\u2019s economy,\u201d said Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) (Agriculture). \u201cThis investment will help Futurpreneur build on their enviable record of providing mentorship and business support to Canada\u2019s young entrepreneurs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The support I have received from Futurpreneur Canada both financially and through mentoring has been instrumental in helping me build Knix Wear. Futurpreneur was there in the beginning and believed in me before banks and external investors did,\u201d said Joanna Griffiths, founder and CEO of Knix Wear<\/a> and Futurpreneur Canada entrepreneur<\/strong>. \u201cFuturpreneur has connected me to a network of like-minded entrepreneurs and experienced mentors from the public and private sector. I am honoured to be called a Futurpreneur.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Futurpreneur has been an incredible vessel for me to give back to the entrepreneurship ecosystem.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today\u2019s announcement was made at an event in Brampton, Ontario, which was hosted by Spin Master<\/a>, a long-time partner of Futurpreneur Canada, in collaboration with UTi<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
