Our commitment to DEI

Diversity, equity & inclusion: an ongoing priority

In June 2020, our Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion collaborated with 13 team members who identify as Black, as well as representing various intersecting identities, to help develop authentic pledges to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). These commitments needed to reflect the current societal situation in 2020, as well as who and where we aimed to be as an organization in the future.

Our diversity & inclusion commitments were created by many who have firsthand experience with racial bias and other systematic disadvantages. Together, we will continue to learn and bring about positive change as we support diverse, young aspiring entrepreneurs and new business owners.

Karen Greve Young, CEO, Futurpreneur

Diversity and inclusion is embedded in the organizational culture of Futurpreneur and is one of our four core values: Mission-driven, Collegial & Collaborative, Diverse & Inclusive and Accountable & Transparent.

What does diversity and inclusion mean to us?

We know that having diverse voices at all levels leads to better experiences, discussions, and results. We are seen as inclusive by 95% of our employees (based on our May 2024 employee survey) and in capturing data on diversity and the challenges facing our community, we approach our ongoing commitment with intention, awareness and openness with the shared goal to continually grow and improve.

Diversity

We embrace and encourage unique perspectives, experiences and lived realities within our team.

Inclusion

We strive to welcome and provide excellent service to a broad range of aspiring young entrepreneurs, fostering inclusion and understanding in all instances.

Advocacy

We stand against and address racism, discrimination, and prejudice in all their forms, in our workplace and in the work we do everyday: driving inclusive prosperity by fostering the success of young entrepreneurs.

Equity

We support a culture that exemplifies and promotes fairness and equity in our relationships with employees, clients, mentors and suppliers.

Prosperity

We achieve our purpose of driving inclusive economic & social prosperity across Canada by supporting the success of diverse young entrepreneurs.

Accountability

We measure how we are doing today, and we continue to prioritize and track our progress moving forward.

Where are we now?

We regularly capture the diversity of our Team, Leadership, and Board as we know that having diverse and representative teams at all levels leads to better experiences, discussions, decision making and results.
