CYBF Honours Sheldon Levy With Entrepreneurial Educator Award

President/Vice-Chancellor of Ryerson University recognized for inspiring next generation of entrepreneurs in Canada

Toronto, ON, November 10, 2011– The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is delighted to announce that Sheldon Levy, President and Vice-Chancellor of Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario will be honoured with CYBF’s  inaugural Entrepreneurial Educator Award.

Presented as part of the CYBF Chairman’s Awards, the CYBF Entrepreneurial Educator Award recognizes the significant contributions to Canada’s economic growth and prosperity made by individuals in the education sector. Award recipients are selected because they raise the profile of entrepreneurship in the education system and promote it among students, faculty and community. These leaders also provide guidance and resources necessary for future Canadian entrepreneurs to succeed.

“Mr. Levy is a dedicated leader and great champion for the university and for the next generation of entrepreneurs,” said Vivian Prokop, chief executive officer for the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. “Under his leadership and in response to the needs of students, Ryerson University established the Digital Media Zone, a workplace for young entrepreneurs that has incubated and accelerated 34 startups in just 19 months. We are very pleased to present him with the CYBF Entrepreneurial Educator Award to recognize his efforts within the education system over the last 30 years to enable social and economic progress through knowledge and innovation.”

“I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award,” said Mr. Levy. ”It is a tribute to the energy and passion of our students. Like universities around the country Ryerson is filled with bright young innovators and entrepreneurs. Every day I am inspired by their spirit and immense talent, and it’s their success that has brought this recognition. I want to thank the CYBF for this honour and I accept it on behalf of all of our students, faculty and staff.”

Mr. Levy will be recognized at the Year of the Entrepreneur “Spotlight on Entrepreneurs” celebration event on November 17th, 2011, in Toronto, Ontario. The event will be hosted by CYBF and the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses (CFIB).
