G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance Signs Charter Outlining Commitment to Entrepreneurship

November 11, 2010

SEOUL, REPUBLIC OF KOREA (November 10, 2010) – This week, at the closing of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit, members of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance presided over the creation of a charter document outlining how they will encourage the G20 process to include entrepreneurship in its agenda. The G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance also committed to sharing best practices with each member nation in order to help build supportive entrepreneurial environments worldwide.

The work of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance in Korea built upon its successful launch at the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit in Toronto, Canada this past June. The Alliance recognizes that young entrepreneurs are powerful drivers of economic renewal, job creation, innovation and social change.

“The Young Entrepreneurs’ Society of Korea was proud to welcome G20 delegates to South Korea for the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Summit,” said Michael Lee, chief executive officer, Young Entrepreneurs’ Society. “Representatives discussed strategies for making the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance an even more impactful and sustainable global movement and have committed to promoting entrepreneurship within each nation.”

Representing Canada at the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit was Vivian Prokop, chief executive officer at the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) and founding Chair of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance.

“As the founding Chair of this G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance, I am absolutely thrilled with the momentum this movement has taken in the four short months since we convened for the first time in Toronto,” said Ms. Prokop, widely considered Canada’s foremost expert on youth entrepreneurship. “My international colleagues are equally motivated to work in sync to propel youth entrepreneurship in our individual nations.”

The next G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance meeting will take place in France in November 2011, prior to the G20 Leaders Summit. It will be hosted by Les Journées de l’Entrepreneur.
