Halifax’s emerging entrepreneurs get a boost from local business experts

June 12, 2014

Halifax (June 11, 2014) – Today, entrepreneurship in Halifax is getting a boost from a new partnership that will connect certified management consultants with local young entrepreneurs for one-on-one, in-depth mentoring for up to two years. Futurpreneur Canada (formerly Canadian Youth Business Foundation) and CMC-Atlantic Canada announced the partnership at its Annual General Meeting earlier today.

Research reveals that mentors have a tremendous impact on overall business success, with 70% of small businesses that receive mentoring surviving for five years or more; double the rate compared with non-mentored entrepreneurs.

Futurpreneur Canada’s mentoring program is recognized internationally for its rigour and impact, and CMC-Atlantic’s members bring expert knowledge about a variety of aspects of running a business. Leveraging these strengths, the partnership will invest in the future of entrepreneurship in Halifax, providing emerging entrepreneurs, ages 18-39, with access to volunteer business mentors to increase their success and support local business growth.

Quotes:

“It doesn’t take a lot of time to make a huge difference in helping a young entrepreneur become successful. Futurpreneur has the mentoring start-up tools to ensure a solid foundation. They also have excellent training to support mentors over the life of the mentoring relationship. Plus it just feels great to see your entrepreneurs take flight.”

Kevin Schwenker, Futurpreneur Canada mentor, Principal at Schwenker & Associates and Member, CMC-Atlantic Canada

“I can’t emphasize enough the impact mentors have on the young entrepreneurs we support. For a young and often first-time entrepreneur, having someone in their corner that challenges them to reach their potential is an invaluable part of their success journey. This new partnership with CMC Atlantic will ensure our entrepreneurs are matched with some exceptional mentors in Atlantic Canada.”
