Nova Scotia recognizes Year of the Entrepreneur

Premier Darrell Dexter announced March 23 that the province is joining the government of Canada and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business in recognizing 2011 as the Year of the Entrepreneur.

“Entrepreneurs are, by definition, risk-takers,” Dexter said. “They are innovators and they are a source of new ideas and new economic value, which is why they are an integral part of the economy here in Nova Scotia.

“It is important that we take this opportunity to recognize the business owners who are helping our province adapt and stay competitive now, and well into the future.”

Dexter made the announcement while addressing members of the Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce in Halifax.

Ninety-four per cent of the about 29,000 businesses in Nova Scotia have less than 100 employees, and 85 per cent have less than 20 employees. Many of those businesses were started by enterprising entrepreneurs.
