TORONTO (November 22, 2017) – Futurpreneur Canada wrapped up Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) by naming Sherbrooke, Quebec as Canada’s Most Entrepreneurial Community of 2017. Sherbrooke earned the title by hosting 39 GEW events, including a lunch and learn for entrepreneurs, a workshop on financing your business idea and a Dragons’ Den style pitch competition through the Bishop’s University Enactus chapter.
“With the Bishop’s University Enactus team, we were able to coordinate four events to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week, including the pleasure of welcoming successful local entrepreneurs from Sherbrooke and Montreal to attend our Guest Speakers Night, as well as the Dragons’ Den event the following day,” said Ashton Glenn, Bishop’s University Enactus, GEW Project Manager. “Our entire Enactus team was inspired by the entrepreneurial experiences our guest speakers shared in such a relatable form.”
“This was our third year participating in Global Entrepreneurship Week; we have seen more and more entrepreneurs and organizations getting involved, coming out to meet the rest of the community” said Julie Plamondon, Coordinator of Entreprendre Sherbrooke. “This year, a total of over 1,600 people attended our activities. GEW is a great opportunity to rally our community [and is] a chance to see engagement efforts take on more concrete forms.”
From November 13th to 19th, GEW took place around the globe, celebrating its 10th year. Approximately 10 million people in 160 countries participate in GEW events and competitions worldwide, inspiring them to engage in entrepreneurial activities while connecting with potential collaborators, mentors, investors and other stakeholders in their community.
“Each year, GEW celebrates the passion and drive of the global entrepreneurial community,” said Julia Deans, CEO, Futurpreneur Canada. “Futurpreneur was proud to be the Canadian host of GEW once again and to highlight Canada’s amazing entrepreneurs on a global stage. We are grateful to those who hosted GEW events this year and were excited to see communities across the country celebrate entrepreneurship.”
This year, Futurpreneur saw nearly 400 activities registered across Canada in celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week. These activities, from large-scale competitions and events to intimate networking gatherings, connected various members of the entrepreneurial community, introducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.
