Changes to Canada’s Small Business Financing Program

We’re pleased about the Government of Canada’s announcement yesterday that they intend to make changes to the Canada Small Business Financing Program. Allowing more small businesses to access financing is good for job creation and the economy. This news is especially timely for us because business growth is a hot topic this year – it’s the focal point for Action Entrepreneurship 2015! This focus on growth came out of the last year’s Action Entrepreneurship post-event plan, Unlocking the Power of Youth Entrepreneurship: An Action Plan for Canada, which outlines over 80 recommendations for creating a more entrepreneurial Canada.

We kicked off the first of 12 Action Entrepreneurship 2015 roundtables this past Wednesday in Toronto, where a group of entrepreneurs and leaders from government, business, non-profit and educational organizations gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities for business growth affecting young entrepreneurs in Canada.

The Toronto roundtable was attended by Minister Kevin Sorenson (Minister of State for Finance) and Ms. Marie-France Lalonde (Parliamentary Assistant to the Ontario Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure and to the Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs), who both spoke about the government’s role in helping young entrepreneurs grow their businesses.
