New entrepreneurs: look for help, ask for help, offer to help
Bobby Umar, P. Eng, MBA, Raeallan, Toronto, ON, CYBF Mentor
If you are just starting out as an entrepreneur the best advice I can give you is to leverage the power of people. This means you have to connect, network and then ask for the help you need. There is no shame in this as you are doing all you can to build your business.
There is help everywhere; you just need to look for it. There are hundreds of people who would be willing to assist; you just need to ask them for it. The worst they could do is say ‘no,’ but likely they could say ‘not yet.’
Lastly, no matter how successful you are or become, the best leaders offer to help continuously. Every networking opportunity should begin with “How can I help you?” and the relationship should continue with this motto. This goodwill and karma will definitely come back to you and will serve you and your personal brand.
We all need help. We all got help to succeed. We all know other people who need help. So look for it, ask for it and offer it.
