TORONTO, ON (July 4, 2017) – David Stewart-Patterson, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for an Entrepreneurial Canada (“FEC”), today announced that The SJ Foundation has generously donated $300,000 to help more young entrepreneurs build their knowledge and skills in honour of Atlantic Canadian entrepreneur and long-serving Futurpreneur Canada Chair John Risley.

FEC is a national charity dedicated to understanding and advancing entrepreneurship in Canada through education and research. It was created in 2012 by Futurpreneur Canada, the only national non-profit organization that provides financing, mentoring and support tools that aspiring business owners aged 18-39 need to launch and grow successful Canadian businesses.

John Risley’s commitment and investments in Futurpreneur Canada have helped 10,000 young people launch and grow businesses. “The SJ Foundation is proud to be honouring John Risley and strengthening education and opportunities for youth entrepreneurs across Canada with this donation,” said The SJ Foundation Founder and Directors Jim Shaw of Alberta and his wife, Kathryn Shaw of Nova Scotia.

“More than ever, young people are considering entrepreneurship as a career option,” said Stewart-Patterson, “The SJ Foundation’s donation will allow FEC to work with Futurpreneur Canada and other partners to better equip young people with the confidence and skills they need to launch and grow more successful businesses in Canada.”
