for inspiring leadership and success among young Canadians

Toronto, ON, November 10, 2011 – The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is delighted to announce that Mr. W. Galen Weston, Executive Chairman of George Weston Limited will be honoured with the CYBF Entrepreneurial Nation Builder Award.

Presented as part of the CYBF Chairman’s Awards, the CYBF Entrepreneurial Nation Builder Award recognizes Canada’s most accomplished entrepreneurial icons who serve as seasoned role models to encourage Canadian youth to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career option and become tomorrow’s nation builders. Award recipients lead corporate enterprises in Canada and have demonstrated long-standing success and growth in Canada and abroad.

“Mr. Weston is one of Canada’s greatest iconic leaders, whose impact is felt far beyond our borders,” said Vivian Prokop, chief executive officer for the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. “Besides driving the growth of an outstanding Canadian company with deep roots in our country’s history, George Weston Limited, Mr. Weston is highly respected for the indelible footprint he has made through The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, a family foundation that for three generations has supported hundreds of organizations across Canada. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada and holds many more important distinctions and awards, making him a role model for success for tomorrow’s nation builders.”

“I am honoured to receive this award,” said Mr. Weston. “Today’s young people are ambitious, smart, and ready and able to take risk. It’s critical that business leaders acknowledge these attributes and commit to a meaningful mentorship culture that keeps this entrepreneurial spirit alive day to day. In our own companies, I have been fortunate to witness amazing contributions from young people who have benefitted from the support and guidance of a mentor.”

Mr. Weston will be recognized at the Year of the Entrepreneur “Spotlight on Entrepreneurs” celebration event on November 17th, 2011, in Toronto, Ontario. The event will be hosted by CYBF and the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses (CFIB), two of Canada’s preeminent leaders in Entrepreneurship.
