Entrepreneurs in Halifax ready to soar!

June 30, 2014

Halifax, June 30, 2014 – Entrepreneurship in Halifax received a fuel injection yesterday at the High Fliers Final Pitch event, hosted by Futurpreneur Canada.

High Fliers is an initiative of Futurpreneur Canada (formerly the Canadian Youth Business Foundation, or CYBF), designed to help young entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia to reach their business growth potential.  This is the third cohort since the program commenced in 2011.

During the 8 month program, 12 young entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia were able to accelerate their entrepreneurial potential through peer mentorship, skill development sessions, learning events, as well as opportunities to meet with successful local entrepreneurs.

“These twelve ambitious and focused entrepreneurs have been on a journey together.   Since November they have come together once a month to learn, share, and grow as entrepreneurs.  They have embraced this opportunity and have all incorporated new approaches and ways of thinking into how they operate their business.  It has been an absolute pleasure working with this group, and I have every confidence that they will each have an impressive and exciting career as High Flier entrepreneurs.” —Nicole Osmond, Director, Atlantic, Futurpreneur Canada

The final session was a Pitch event yesterday where each High Flier was given the opportunity to pitch their business to a guest panel of judges.  The winner of the pitch was Brad Hiltz, Good Wood Fuel.  Brad received a $1,000 cash prize donated by Invest Atlantic, as well as 18 hours of mentorship provided by The Mentor Group. “The opportunity to keep my business focused was a great benefit for me.  After each session I felt energized and more motivated to put my ideas into action. High Fliers gave me actionable items to achieve my business growth goals.” said Brad Hiltz.

The High Fliers Program was supported by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Nova Scotia Economic and Rural Development and Tourism
